Focused Shockwave Therapy

Tampa Running & Performance Clinic is now offering focused extracorporeal shockwave therapy using the Chattanooga Intelect® Focus Shockwave system.

Some injuries get “stuck” in a cycle of chronic pain where the body simply stops trying to heal. Focused Shockwave Therapy uses high-energy acoustic waves to penetrate deep into the tissue, reaching the exact source of pain that manual therapy can’t touch. By triggering your body’s natural regenerative response at a cellular level, we effectively “re-start” the healing process. This is our most powerful non-invasive tool for resolving stubborn conditions — getting you back on the road when other treatments have plateaued.

What Is Focused Shockwave Therapy?

Extracorporeal shockwave therapy, often called ESWT, uses acoustic pressure waves applied from outside the body. Unlike general massage or surface-level modalities, focused shockwave therapy is designed to concentrate energy into a smaller, targeted treatment zone.

This makes it a useful option when treating stubborn tendon, fascia, and soft-tissue conditions that have not responded fully to traditional rehabilitation alone.

Common Conditions We May Use It For

  • Lower Body
    • Plantar fasciosis
    • Achilles tendinosis
    • Medial tibial stress syndrome (shin splints)
    • Knee meniscus injuries and osteoarthritis
    • Hamstring tendinosis
    • Greater trochanteric pain syndrome
    • Bone stress injuries
    • Low back pain
  • Upper Body
    • Lateral epicondylosis (Tennis elbow)
    • Rotator cuff tendinosis
    • Carpal tunnel syndrome
    • Thoracic pain

Why We Added This Technology

At Tampa Running & Performance Clinic, we believe recovery is an active process, not a passive one. We integrated Focused Shockwave Therapy because it solves the ultimate rehabilitation paradox: you need to load the tissue to heal it, but sometimes the pain is too high to start. By using high-energy acoustic waves to target the root of the injury, we create a critical “window of opportunity.” This rapid pain reduction allows us to bypass the usual delays and move straight into the progressive loading and performance training you need to get back to the road faster. Nick and Dario have spent years utilizing this exact technology to rehabilitate military Special Operators, where “good enough” isn’t an option.

What to Expect

A typical session is 5-10 minutes. Your provider will first evaluate your condition, identify the target area, and determine whether focused shockwave therapy is appropriate for your case. Treatment is paired with an individualized rehabilitation plan, not used as a stand-alone replacement for exercise.

Some patients may notice soreness during or after treatment. Your provider will review what to expect, how to modify activity afterward, and how the treatment fits into your overall plan of care.

Pricing & Value

We understand that Focused Shockwave Therapy is a premium service. Unlike the common “radial” pressure wave machines found in many clinics—which are often less precise and only treat surface-level issues—we have invested in the Chattanooga Intelect® Focus Shockwave system. This is a medical-grade piece of advanced technology capable of reaching deep, stubborn tissues with surgical precision. Because it is a “true” focused shockwave, it delivers significantly higher energy to the exact site of your injury, often requiring fewer sessions and providing faster results than standard alternatives. We seek to provide you the best of the best.

First Session: Included with your Initial Evaluation

Follow-Up Session: $179

Recovery Bundle (4 Sessions): $650 ($162.50 per session)

Add-on Treatment: $89 (Per additional body part or session add-on)

Is It Right for Me?

Because Focused Shockwave is a powerful tool, it isn’t a “one-size-fits-all” solution. To ensure it’s the most effective path for your specific injury, an initial evaluation with one of our expert rehab providers is required. We will perform a comprehensive assessment to determine if Shockwave is clinically indicated and how to best integrate it into your recovery plan.

Focused shockwave therapy is not a guaranteed cure and results vary by condition, severity, health history, and adherence to the full rehabilitation plan. Your clinician will determine whether this treatment is appropriate for you.
